Goal

After identifying systemic challenges around school-based health care, the Foundation commissioned a needs assessment that resulted in five specific strategies to support school-based nurses.

• Supporting advocacy for regular re-evaluation of school health laws, mandates and policies.
• Education and awareness of the role of school nurses, and their challenges
• Professional development specific to school nurses’ work
• Investigating staffing and funding models
• Mitigating Covid impact, including providing PPE through a joint project with other local organizations

For its work to date, the Foundation was awarded the Friend of School Nursing award from the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses in 2021.
